Well, I've decided to make a New Year's resolution...to NOT make any resolutions. I'm dreading the next month and I'm thinking of just leaving the TV unplugged until February. I'm pretty sure that, just as in previous January's, there will be endless infomercials on losing weight and many nationally recognized gyms will be offering new memberships, promising us 6-pack abs and a slimmer and trimmer waist that will have us wanting to donate the new clothes we got for Christmas. And let's not forget the many Hollywood celebrities who will be spouting the wonders of the latest ground breaking, wrinkle reducing cream that has only now been formulated from a recently discovered fruit off a prickly cactus only found in the remote regions of the Himalayan mountains, and, of course, it only produces fruit every decade.
All joking aside, I know that this is the time when many of us look back over the past year, or maybe even the past few years, and wonder if and how things will change. We all tend to focus on the outward changes we'd like...I'd certainly like to have that slimmer, trimmer waist and I think it's safe to say my husband would like to have those 6-pack abs. And a few less wrinkles would be much appreciated. However, these are all external things that change with time...the weight can come back on, and unless you continue that enduring workout schedule you've just signed up for, your 6 pack-abs will go back to being the flabby belly you've always had. It's only the internal part of us that is really worthwhile changing.
With that in mind, I've added my latest installment to "Growing Beyond your Painful Past". You can view it http://fionab-growingbeyondyourpainfulpast.blogspot.com/. I hope it inspires you to focus on what's really important...working on the inner you.
